X2Go is an open source remote desktop software for Linux, giving remote access to the Linux graphical user interface. The client is cross platform, available from Windows, Mac and Linux. It provides secure remote sessions via ssh. Both the server and client packages are installed on all workstations by default.

To connect to your workstation be sure to use select the ssh key setting, the ssh proxy setting and point it to one of the bastion servers (i.e. bose or kirchhoff), and select XFCE as the session type (or run a single application if that’s all you need).

Admin notes

The client package is available from the Debian repositories. To install the server package, the x2go keys and repositories are added via puppet.
