Skype is an application that provides video chat and voice calls between computers.

User instructions

Skype is installed on all workstations via a downloaded installer. It can be started by choosing “Skype” in the XFCE menu, or by entering skypeforlinux on the command line.

Not available.

Admin notes

The skypeforlinux-64.deb file was downloaded from and is distributed and installed via puppet. This is a fairly large blob so is ignored by the puppet git. New versions can be simply downloaded over the previous version.

Note that the file /etc/apt/sources.list.d/skype-stable.list is then removed by puppet so that apt doesn’t use the skype repository.
